Man Believes He Got Pregnant After Having Gay Sex

A 52 year old Indian man was recently hospitalized by a psychiatrist after he claimed that he had been impregnated after having an intercourse with his partner.
The man whose name was withheld and is a father of two, told his family that he was feeling a baby moving around in his stomarch and that he was going to deliver.
He was immediately then taken to a hospital in Kunhitharuvai Memorial Charitable Trust
Medical College where a psychiatric examined him and concluded that he was suffering from “delusions” spurred by his secret sexual relationship with another man. He then admitted to doctors that his belief followed a homosexual encounter.
Speaking on the issue, Head of the Doctors at the hospital Dr PN Suresh Kumar – said:
“We never came across this sort of case before. He was an active homosexual in his adolescent years which may contributed to his beliefs. But, his homosexuality did not affect his marriage,”
“Usually, we see couvade syndrome in some dads-to-be who show certain symptoms of pregnancy (like nausea, weight gain or sleep problems) when their partners get pregnant.”
According to the doctor, there didn’t seem to be any gender identity disorders with the guy and test results came back normal, despite the delusion which the patient’s doctor said started six months ago.
“The patient went for counseling and took Risperidone. This delusion was cured due to the medical intervention. After a series of counseling sessions, he stopped indulging in homosexual activities. Now, the patient is recovering and we are measuring his progress during periodic check-ups.”
